Technology and Learning

My first experience with technology and learning was while I was attending the College of Southern Idaho.  I had enrolled in a math class with out realizing it was a telecom class.  Taking a telecom class was challenging for me because I was not accustomed to not having the face-to-face interaction with the instructor.  When I was in high school 20+ years before, there was no such thing as a telecom class!  After I adjusted to the differences between telecom and traditional classes, I realized how using technology has its advantages. Technology allowed me to take a class that I would not have been able to take otherwise.  Now, I embrace the use of technology because without it, I would not be able to pursue a degree in HRDT.

  1. I guess that's one way to learn something, just jump right in! I have taken telecoms classes and face-to-face classes and I'm not sure which one I like the most, I guess they both have their pros and cons. I agree with you that technology allows us to have opportunities we never would have had in the past.

  2. That is great! I also went to CSI and I loved it! That is probably the best way to learn but I am sure it was a little stressful getting used to doing a tech class right away! I can only imagine. I was worried about taking online classes before I started. It has been great! I now love it because I can be home and not worry about my work schedule. I can always fit in school with life now! I look forward to more posts.

  3. I can relate with your new experience of attending college and having a new style of course structure and material. When I started my college career over 10 years ago, I never took online courses. I strictly took courses in the traditional in class application. I took a break from college for five years and then returned. I was then introduced to online courses. I had issues navigating thru Moodle because every instructor setup their own course. This was very confusing to me and my first semester back I struggled for a few weeks till I understood the design of the different courses. I’m right on the same page as you though, I would not be graduating without this advance in technology.

  4. I also had a big learning curve when I decided to return to college after seven years since I graduated from high school. It took me a bit to adjust to classes that were online. I like you looked at these classes positively as I wouldn't be able to complete required courses because they weren't offered in my area. I'm extremely grateful to see how technology has enabled me to work towards my Bachelor's degree online. So awesome!
